When the exam season is round the corner, students scramble for study spots. In Singapore, it is common for students to study in libraries, cafes and other study spots as home may not be the most conducive place to learn. Apart from school libraries which not all students have access to, where are the best study spots for students? Let’s find out!

  1. National Library (Bras Basah)

There are many libraries all around Singapore, but the National Library located at Bras Basah is the top study spot for students. There are many vacant tables for students who wish to study, and the place is comfortable and well-ventilated. There are lockers for students to deposit their valuables and those who need to do research will find it convenient as there is an abundance of reading materials and academic resources on a wide range of topics. There are cafes on the first and fifth floor of the library, for those students who get hungry easily. Located in Bras Basah, there are many shopping malls and eateries around the area, and students may unwind and relax after a long day of studying.

  1. library@esplanade

The library@esplanade is another centrally located library that is excellent for studying. Located in the Esplanade, which is Singapore’s performing arts hub, the library mainly stores materials related to the arts. While it is smaller than the National Library, the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. It also tends to be less crowded than the National Library, due to the lack of academic materials and seats, but it is definitely a worthwhile study spot. The view is great, as it overlooks the Marina Bay area, but the library tends to be chilly, so do remember to bring a sweater or jacket with you!

  1. Singapore Management University

If you are in town and wish to find a well-ventilated area to study, you can consider heading to the Singapore Management University, which is located in the Bras Basah area as well. The campus has many benches and study spots for students, and it is open to the public. If you wish to use the seminar rooms or libraries, you would need to be a student of the school. Students who do not mind studying without air-conditioning will find SMU an ideal study spot, and the area tends to be quiet as well. If you are hungry, there are many cafes and bistros located on campus, and you are guaranteed to find something you like.

  1. Changi Airport

The airport is one of the world’s best and needs no further introduction. Besides being an airport, it also doubles up as a study spot for many students in Singapore. Even though it may be inconvenient for some students to get there, it remains a popular spot as the terminals are spacious, well-ventilated and clean. Better still, the airport is open 24 hours a day, and those who have a habit of mugging late into the night do not need to worry. However, as it is not a location specially designed for studying, you may have to be creative about where you want to study. For instance, you can find a cozy café in the area, or use one of the empty spaces located in the terminals.

  1. Community Centres

The community centres in Singapore are another study spot which is popular among students. This is because community centres are located within the heartlands, and near to home for many people. Students do not need to take too much time to get there, and more time can be spent on studying. There are over 270 community centres and residents’ committee centres in Singapore. Each centre features a study corner with an air-conditioned environment and plug outlets for charging laptops and devices.
